Milk Tart - "Melktert"
Updated: Oct 12, 2022
Melktert is a South African dessert consisting of a sweet pastry crust containing a custard filling made from milk, flour, sugar, and eggs.
The origin of the dessert is credited to a recipe listed in Thomas van der Noot’s book, ”A Notable Book of Cookery" and it’s possible that Milk Tart developed from the same recipe.

I will share with you the recipe that I've used. The first time I've ever made it it was without a crust. It's very light and delicious. The taste reminds me of rice pudding.
The second time I made some changes, I added some Nutmeg and Almond extract in it and put it in a crust. I used a 9" deep-dish store-bought pie crust. It was enough for 2 tarts.
It is a very delicious dessert you have to try!
